Cold storage labels that survive staff turnover
Wallet labels die when only one engineer understands them. Controllers need durable naming before monitoring alerts mean anything.
We still meet operators whose Crypto Portfolio Desktop shows addresses tagged “old,” “test2,” or a departed employee’s nickname. Alerts on those labels waste the finance team’s morning.
A naming pattern that holds
Use entity, purpose, and custody type: SVC-Mining-Cold-Ops-01. Avoid personal names. Record the creation date and the policy document that authorized the wallet in a register outside the desktop view.
Dual control without theater
Labeling does not replace multi-signature policy. It does make weekly reviews faster: when an alert fires, everyone knows which policy bucket moved.
During onboarding
Our institutional treasury monitoring kickoff includes a label cleanup pass. It is unglamorous and prevents the first month of false urgency.
